Current Australian passport photo requirements

Printed format: 35-40 mm wide by 45-50 mm high, with face height 32-36 mm from chin to crown. Two identical colour photos are normally required.
Age and background: Taken within 6 months against a plain white or light-grey background, with even lighting and no shadows.
Pose: Face centred and looking directly at the camera, neutral expression, mouth closed and eyes open. Glasses should be removed where possible.
No alteration: No retouching or changes to facial features, background or proportions.

We check the latest requirements and application procedures beforehand. Rules can change and the exact application route is decisive. Final acceptance rests with the issuing authority. Bring the current application checklist or portal reference, especially for visas, residence permits, identity cards and children.

For online orders, send an original, unedited photo with space around the head and shoulders. We will crop and size it to the selected requirements, but we do not alter facial features or guarantee acceptance of an unsuitable source image.

Appointments are not required and we can usually print out your Australian passport and visa photos within minutes but it's always good to let us know you are coming in. We are based in North London N6 and open 7 days a week. If possible bring along a current set of Australian passport instructions with you for your own peace of mind as they do change slightly over time.

General Visa Requirements

Everyone who wishes to go to Australia, with the exception of Australian and New Zealand citizens, needs a visa. Depending on the reason for your visit and your nationality it is possible to apply for an Electronic Travel Authority otherwise known as an ETA . An ETA is an invisible, electronic visa that allows you to remain in Australia for up to 3 months. ETA's can be applied for online.

If you are not an ETA eligible citizen or your trip to Australia is for longer than 3 months you will need to apply for a Australian tourist visa from your nearest Australian Embassy.
