How to Order
If you cannot make it into our shop simply post your cine film to us - don't forget to include your instructions, address and telephone number. On receipt of your work we will call you, confirm your instructions, and take payment by credit card over the phone..
MP4 and AVI Digital Files
Choose MP4 for convenient playback and sharing, or AVI when you need a compatible file for further editing. Files can be supplied on a suitable USB drive or external hard drive. Storage requirements vary, so we will confirm them before work begins.
Image sequence files are also available for advanced users at 50% extra
Optional restoration service
AI enhancement for 16mm cine
Suitable 16mm footage can be enhanced after scanning to improve detail, reduce grain and noise, stabilise movement, correct colour and exposure, and reduce flicker or limited surface marks. HD or 4K upscaling may also be possible where the source supports it.
Results depend on the original film: AI cannot recreate information that was never recorded or has completely faded.
Extra DVDs
Although DVDs last a lifetime without deterioration in quality one scratch or scuff mark will render it unplayable. For this reason we strongly advise you to order an extra DVD back up copy of your cine transfer work.
Time and Length
The easiest way to find out both the running time and the film footage of 16mm film is to measure the diameter of the reel
- 3" diameter - 50ft, 2 minutes
- 5" diameter - 200ft, 8 minutes
- 7" diameter - 400ft, 15 minutes
- 9" diameter - 800ft, 30 minutes
- 12" diameter - 1200ft, 45 minutes
Please note that running times are approximate as they depend on the frame rate
Cleaning
All cine film is assessed for damage and cleanliness free of charge. Films may need resplicing and gentle dust removal. If more thorough cleaning would improve your 16mm film, we will discuss the options and cost with you first.
On occasion, cine film comes in smelling of vinegar - Vinegar Syndrome, or may be badly affected with mould and mildew. If this happens, we will contact you to discuss the options.

16mm cine film is so-called because it measures 16mm across.
There are three types of 16mm in common consumer use. These are 16mm film with a brown magnetic sound strip down the side, 16mm film with an optical sound strip down the side, and finally, cine film with no sound.
